KPMG TAX ARCADE
Copywriter, Producer | Activation
To highlight KPMG's new digital gateway platform that makes taxes intuitive, easy, and (almost) fun, we created the first-ever Tax Arcade for KPMG's annual Cross-Boarder Tax Conference.
Retro Games, Remixed.
I rewrote the storylines for four classic arcade games (Mrs. Pac-Man, Frogger, Space Invaders, and Spy Hunter) to make them all tax-themed, complete with names, characters, power-ups, in-game verbiage, and cabinet copy that related to KPMG's new Digital Gateway.
Three Hundred Tax Consultants Walked into an Arcade...
...and they played and played and played and played our tax-themed video games—over 4,000 times in three days.
Uh oh, you were grabbed by the arms-length principle.
Every game featured custom, branded text pop-ups filled with tax jokes and puns. Including my favorite reference in Transfer Hunter to the "Arms-Length Principle," which afforded our team the opportunity to send disembodied arms down the road as obstacles.
Transfer Pricer
We turned Frogger into a game demonstrating how tax professionals can navigate transfer pricing obstacles—and money turtles.
Mrs. Tax-Man
The Queen of the Arcade got a makeover, as did her power ups: Pillar-Two-State-of-Play Pears, Beps 2.0 Cherries, and KBAT App-les. Yum.
Compliance Hunter
Keeping chaos at bay, one compliance strategy at a time. Just watch out for those deadline drones. They really fly in out of nowhere.
Gen AI Invaders
Blast through legislative changes and heavy documentation. Is the name a metaphor for the existential threat artists feel generative AI is on our livelihood? No, but in retrospective maybe it should have been.
You Don't Know Tax
Because six arcade cabinets wasn't enough, we also created a tax trivia game, named after the gameshow "You Don't Know Jack."
Making Taxes Fun
We were tasked with reinventing the conference lobby into an entertainment space that the tax pros would actually want to hang out in. They did. For hours and hours and hours.
